Top Places to visit in Manali

Manali is one of the favorite hills station of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. You can visit here through out the year. I have listed some places to visit in Manali:

1. Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is a very beautiful and popular tourist place in Manali. In winter, the mountains at the Rohtang Pass are completely covered in snow and it is impossible to get there. Hence, Rohtang Pass remains closed during winters (from October to May).

Between May to October, Rohtang becomes a place for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The snow-covered mountains provide the perfect opportunity for different adventures like skiing, snow scooter riding, snow cycling etc. You must visit with your family and friends to this wonderful place and enjoy some quality time together.

2. Solang Valley

Solang Valley is one of the best location and perfect for adventure lover. Solang Nala (Valley) drives its name from combination of words Solang (Nearby village) and Nullah (water stream). It is a side valley at the top of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India 13 km northwest of the Manali Town on the way to Rohtang Pass, and is known for its summer and winter sport conditions. Skiing and Paragliding are two main activities are organized here. Apart from this many other adventure sports are available like Horse riding, Zorbing & Snow Motor Bikes riding etc. You can also enjoy rope-way (cable car) here.

3. Hadimba Devi Temple

Hadimba Devi Temple is one of the oldest temple in Manali and also the major tourist attractions in Manali for visitors. This temple is surrounded by a cedar forest at the foot of the Himalayas. Hadimba or Dhungiri temple in Manali is one of the most important temples in the region. This four story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest called the Dhungiri Van Vihar. This temple was built in 1553 and is dedicated to Goddess Hadimba.

This temple is dedicated to the great sage Vashisht in the village of Vashisht located at 3 km from Manali on the slopes east of the Beas River. This temple is also famous for his hot springs water. Indian tourists mostly come here to bathe in the hot springs and tour the temples, while foreign tourists largely come here for the cheap accommodation, chilled atmosphere and charas. You can see a lot of foreign tourist inside the temple premises. There are some interesting traditional wood and stone houses with ornate carving and a number of typically Himachali temples in the middle of the village but most guesthouses close down for the winter from late October.

5. Nehru Kund and Beas River

Nehru Kund refers to a natural cold water spring that originates from the Brighu River. The springs are located 5 Kilometres from Manali on the way to Rohtang Pass. The place is named after Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru who was said to drink from this very spring whenever he visited Manali. The place is a serene and beautiful picnic spot which is sure to refresh your senses. This kund is near to Beas River which makes this place perfect for photography.

Beas River is often described as the Heart of Kullu valley and is known for its various camping spots and water sports. The flow of the river is very fast and is not fit for swimming, but is the perfect for River Rafting. This riverside are famous picnic spots and the best place to relax during the evenings.

6. The Mall Road

Mall Road is perfect evening location for shopping, food, fun and relaxation. The Mall is crowded with numerous shops selling a number of delights from woolen clothes, shawls, mufflers, gloves and socks, the market has everything you need. Amazing local handicrafts rule the shops in these crowded shoppers. The market is going to keep you very busy and extremely happy. An impressive row of restaurants is very good for foodie people. You can also try fruit beer hear.

7. Naggar Castle

The Naggar Castle is a magnificent historical building. This palace served as the residence of Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu which made of stone and wood. It was built in 1460 in an impressive mixture of Himalayan and European architecture. There are three small shrines within the premises, each holding immense religious importance. For art lovers, Naggar Castle has incredible art pieces and painting.

In the year 1978, the castle was converted into a rest house, and more recently into a heritage hotel that is run by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The holy Beas River flows close to the castle, adding beauty and sanctity to it. This place is one of the must visit place in Manali.

8. Manikaran Gurudwara

Manikaran is located in the Parvati Valley between the rivers Beas and Parvati in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh. It is at an altitude of 1760 m and is located about 45 km from Kullu.

This small town attracts tourists visiting Manali and Kullu to its hot springs and pilgrim centres. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. You required half extra day to visit this place or you can visit here at the time of return journey.

9. Pandoh Dam

The Pandoh Dam is an embankment dam on the Beas River in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Under the Beas Project, the dam was completed in 1977 and its primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation.
