After a day in Orchha, we took a bus and reached khajuraho at 9 pm. We missed the light show in the temple complex as we were late. We took a hotel room, got fresh and then went out to take dinner in a restaurant.
Early morning of December 2012 around 7am, we were ready to leave for Ken Crocodile Sanctuary and Raneh Canyon. They were less than an hour drive from Khajuraho (around 20 km). We hired an auto for Rs 300 because there was no public transport available for the route. The Sanctuary’s entry is paid and a forest department guide is mandatory. At Ken crocodile sanctuary, apart from crocodile you might also spot Wild boars, Chinkaras, blue bulls, Wolves, Langoors and peacocks. Raneh canyon have a great view and different colors of landscape.
Area surrounding Ken sanctuary was very beautiful. We also sighted some animals like Spotted deer, Wolf, Longur, wild boar, Chinkara, Blue bull (Nilgai) and some beautiful birds.
There is a watch tower from where you can capture 360 degree panorama picture and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The Ken River forms a 5-6 kilometres long and 30 metre deep canyon made of pure crystalline granite in varying shades of colors ranging from pink and red to grey and black.
There was a small shop of snacks and forest department clothes. One can buy tiger print T-Shirts, woolen Jackets, hats etc. After visiting the sanctuary, we had tea with snacks and then returned to Khajuraho around 11 am.
